The Wörthersee in Carinthia: The Côte d’Azur of Austria

Here are some magical moments from the Wörthersee: Feeling the mild breeze, ease and freedom. The scent of the wooden planks on the Jetty, of summer and the sun on your nose and the lapping noise of the waves in your ears. And “seeing and being seen” has been put into full swing.

The day begins with a morning swim or with a stand up paddle to the Kapuzinerinsel, at lunchtime it is best to take the motorboat for lunch in one of the many chic restaurants that have settled around the Wörthersee.

My personal favourites are:

The Jilly Beach not only for lunch, but also in the evening, as you can enjoy their wonderful food, with top service including sundowners, just like in the Caribbean.

It is also nice in the Rosé (Villa Bulfon in Velden) with a large lawn for lunch and dinner. Also very practical for children due to the large meadow.

In addition to the many places to be, the LakeSide and the beach bar in the Hotel Linde also count, of course – but you should definitely moor there with a motorboat, preferably with a beautiful Riva boat, if you don’t have one, you can rent it!

Those who prefer gourmet cuisine are in good hands in Hubert Wallner’s new restaurant.

I can also recommend:

Restaurant Seespitz in Schloss Velden and Porto Bello in Schloss Seefels.

Incidentally, those who do not have their own private access to one of the coveted bathing spots can end the day wonderfully in the Kropfitschbad in Krumpendorf – including a beautiful restaurant right on the water and a sensational view of the Karawanken mountains.

There is enough choice of great restaurants and activities around the Wörthersee – a week’s vacation is hardly enough!

I’m already looking forward to next year when we plan on returning!
